Jelly Roll: rapper and country star

Jelly Roll (born Jason DeFord December 4, 1984) is an American rapper, country singer and rocker who has been successful since the early 2010s. Originally from the South Side community of Antioch near Nashville, Tennessee, Jelly Roll Roll is raised a troubled young man. He served three years in a juvenile detention center for robbery and was charged with a felony when he was 21 years old. After struggling with addiction issues, he cleaned up his life with the birth of his daughter. His natural storytelling and gift for music led him to launch a career in country rap. He frequently collaborated with Southern rapper Lil Whyte early in his career and became friends with Struggle Jennings (resulting in a quartet of collaborative albums). In 2021, Jelly Roll released ‘Ballads of the Broken’ which saw him focus more on singing than rapping. The album featured “Son of a Sinner”, their first No. 1 country radio hit.
