John Boyega says despite his experience, he’s still “in love” with the STAR WARS franchise

For better or for worse, actor John Boyega will forever be linked to Star Wars franchise. She has starred in the last three chapters of the Skywalker Saga, including The force awakens, The Last JediAND The Rise of Skywalker. While these films weren’t fan favorites, they weren’t even very popular with Boyega himself, but he was a fan of the franchise long before those films, and he continues to be.

In a recent interview with Total Film magazine (via GamesRadar), Boyega explained that despite his feelings for those latest films, he’s still a “huge, huge” Star Wars fan.

“I was the person on set who corrected things,” he laughs. “Like the flying jet troopers we had in The Rise of Skywalker. Poe said, ‘Now they fly’ and I thought they’d seen the flying jet troopers from [animated TV series] The Clone Wars. I play games on Battlefront. I have a solid relationship with all the Star Wars stuff.”

He adds of his love for the franchise:

“My first interaction with Star Wars was a Darth Maul figure. I’m a ’90s kid, so I came during the prequels. I was like, ‘Damn, man.’ I didn’t know what it was but I knew it looked good and there were spaceships and glow sticks that could cut your wrist off. Then I went back to the old Star Wars after. OK I’m guilty – I said the effects are shit when I was younger! I didn’t know any better. Then I grew up and fell in love with him. I still love him. I love him damn. But it’s almost nicer not to have to do it and not have to deal with it. It’s weird, you come back to being again a fan and see you again in the games.

She also shared that she watches all of the Disney Plus Star Wars shows and “loves” them all. It’s a shame that once he joined the franchise, it didn’t go well for him as an actor or a fan.

Boyega was most recently seen in the 2022 drama, The Woman Kingand is currently working on several projects, including the highly anticipated sequel, Attack block 2.
