Zack Snyder he worked hard to develop his two parts rebel moon sci-fi epic for Netflix, and it turns out that every one of those films will also be getting an extended, R-rated cut. This new information comes from Andy Koyama, who is working on the sound for the film. During an interview with /Film, Koyama shared that there will be four films in total:

“We just did the first temp mix to preview part one, and it’s very exciting. It’s a big, huge space — they probably don’t want me to say it — ‘Star Wars’-y, ‘rebels vs. the thing’ evil empire over all kinds of different worlds, it’s really fun.
“There will be two films. I think we will be mixing them from June to February. And there will also be extended R-rated versions of each of the two films, so we will be mixing four different feature films.”
Then, it will be fun to see! I like that Snyder is doing two extended R-rated cuts to go along with the regular cuts.
The story is set in a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They send a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them make a stand against the Tyrant.
Snyder previously spoke about the project, saying, “This is me growing up like Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this too becomes a huge IP and a universe that can be built.”
rebel moon star Cleopatra Colemann (Stupid AND Infinity pool) also talked about the film and while he couldn’t say much, he said the upcoming sci-fi movie was beautiful and epic and also revealed what it was like working with Snyder. She said:
“There’s really not a lot I can say, but I will say that Zack is another director who really likes what he does. He comes at it with such enthusiasm, he drives the camera, he’s in the trenches with everyone, and it’s an amazing world that he created. I think people are going to really love the action. The actors worked really hard on the stunts and it’s going to look really good. It’s going to be epic. That’s all I can really say. I can’t give it away.”
The film is also the protagonist Sophia Botella, Charlie Hunnam, Doona Bae, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huismann, Anthony Hopkins, AND Alfonso Herrera.
rebel moon centers on a peaceful colony on the edge of space whose lives are turned upside down when they are attacked by the armies of a brutal dictator. The colony sends Kora, played by Sofia Boutella, as sent to seek help from nearby planets. The cast also includes Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins, Corey Stoll, Djimon Hounsou, Cary Elwes, Jena Malone, Doona Bae and Ray Fisher.
The movie started out as a pitch for a potential Star Wars movie, with the idea being the darkest version of Snyder from the galaxy far, far away. Almost 10 years later, the movie is now coming to Netflix. In addition to directing, Snyder co-wrote the script with Army of the Dead co-writer Shay Hatten and 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad.
Rebel Moon Part 1 will arrive on Netflix on December 22nd.
