Recently, Ayer responded to a Twitter user that said 2016’s Suicide squad he should have asked teammates to help El Diablo build a offer for his family, and Ayer responded, revealing he had a similar idea.
The director stated that the film was supposed to end with Diablo “doing a offer”, which is an altar that honors the dead, “and illuminates it with its powers”. However, this was stopped by the studio who were in favor of killing off the character. Ayer went on to say that Diablo’s dialogue is based on the people he grew up with in South Central Los Angeles.

I ended it with Diablo making an ofrenda and setting it alight with his powers. Study cut out. And he killed him. And Diablo talks just like all the heads I grew up with in South Central. 🇲🇽 @jay_hernandez https://t.co/KGAuKA456J
