Swifties gets a special gift from Taylor Swift on March 17. Hours before the first show of her Eras Tour, Taylor dropped four new songs. Three of the tracks were re-recordings of previously released tracks (“Eyes Open” and “Safe and Sound” from voracious games soundtracks, as well as “If This Was A Movie” by Speak Now). The fourth song, “All of the Girls You Loved Before”, is considered a song that didn’t make it to Taylor’s 2019 album. Lover.
“All of the Girls You Loved Before” features Taylor saying goodbye to all the women her man has been with in the past. Since there are rumors that she was inside Loverall signs point to Taylor’s current boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, being the man in question (Taylor and Joe have been dating since 2016). The song sees Taylor recognizing that Joe wouldn’t be who he is today without people from his past, so he can think fondly of those other women.
“All the girls you loved before turned you into the person I fell in love with,” Taylor sings in the chorus. “Every dead end has led you right to me, now you’re all I need. I’m so thankful for all the girls you’ve loved before, and I love you more.”

Of course, the same goes for Taylor’s exes, as the second verse has her reminiscing about her past hurts and assuring Joe that those mistakes made her the woman he fell in love with. “Secret jokes, alone, nobody home, sixteen and wild,” she sings in the second verse. “We separate, we reconcile, we leave without saying goodbye. I just know that’s all she did to me. Now I call you baby
That sense of the past that leads to everything Taylor has today has already manifested itself in her music. On 2020’s “Invisible String,” she sings about how there’s always been an “invisible string” connecting her and Joe, even when they haven’t met yet. “Bad was the blood of the music in the cab on your first trip to LA, you ate at my favorite place for dinner,” Taylor sings, referring to Joe listening to her music and eating at her favorite restaurant before they were married.
Taylor has been hard at work rehearsing her Eras tour over the past few weeks. She kicks off nearly five months of shows on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona.
