Remember that time when James Gunn he talked about the conversations he had with Ben Affleck about directing a future DC Studios film and even said that Affleck “really wants to direct one of our projects, and we’re thrilled that he does”?
Well, it turns out Affleck wants nothing to do with it and is “definitely” not interested in directing a DC Studios movie for Gunn and Peter Safran. This is exactly what she said in an interview with THR:
“I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not. I have nothing against James Gunn. Good boy, sure he’ll do a great job. I wouldn’t go in and direct the way they’re doing it. I don’t care about that.”
So after its appearance in The flash as Batman, it seems like Affleck is leaving the DCU behind once and for all. He makes it pretty clear here that this is no longer a franchise he wants to be a part of. But, when it comes to his role in The flash, Affleck revealed that he liked what he did in the film and that he is only in the film for about five minutes. Here he talks about Batman again and nails the character in those five minutes:
“The Justice League experience, the fact that those stories got a bit repetitive for me and less interesting. Yeah, I finally figured out how to play that character [Batman], and nailed it in The Flash. For the five minutes it’s there, it’s pretty awesome. A lot is just tone. You have to understand, what is your version of the person? Who’s the guy that fits what you can do? I tried to fit into a Batman. And by the way, I like a lot of the things we’ve done, especially the first one [Batman v Superman].”
I was actually hoping to see Affleck direct one of these DC Studios movies since he never got the opportunity to direct his own Batman movie. But he has other priorities, other types of projects with stories that he’s more interested in telling, which is great! He recently directed Air, which tells the story of how Nike brought Michael Jordan to Air Jordan. That movie looks great!
What do you think about Affleck passing up an opportunity to direct a DC Studios movie?
