Disney cancels Lucasfilm’s Willow series after one season

by Lucasfilm Willow the series will not be getting a second season on Disney+ as Disney has officially canceled the show. I can’t say I’m surprised, although there were aspects of the show that I enjoyed, I felt like the story, script and characters weren’t that interesting, and it sucks because I was actually excited about this show! I’m a huge fan of the original movie and wanted this series to be great! But it just didn’t work for me, and it obviously didn’t work for a lot of other fans.

As I watched the entire series, most of the people I know and talked to about the show never made it past the third episode because they lost interest. It’s a shame because this series had so much potential, it should have been so much better than it was! Jonathan Kasdan wrote the pilot and served as co-showrunner alongside Wendy Mericle, and there’s no doubt they’re devastated by the news.

In the series, Warwick Davis is back as Willow as she leads an unlikely crew of heroes on a mission to protect Andowyne from an even greater enemy than they ever dreamed possible. She introduced several new characters who had to face their inner demons in their adventure and unite to save their world.

The series was produced by Ron Howard who had hoped the series would get a second season and previously said, “Well, there’s always been a hope and a plan for more seasons. There’s definitely more story to tell, but there’s nothing concrete I can comment on right now. From a creative point of view, everyone is full of energy. Everyone loved working on Willow. She seemed to have found her voice and her base, so we’re just waiting.

One thing Kasdan wanted to delve into was Madmartigan’s story, which he’d previously said was far from over. But now it looks like he won’t be able to tell that story. This news update definitely sucks for the creative talent behind the series and the audiences who have come to appreciate it.
