I go into some Scream VI Spoiler territory here!

In Scream VI, there was a conversation about Stu and a joke about a conspiracy that Stu is still alive. In the original Scream movie, Stu was stabbed multiple times and a TV dropped on his head. That TV was one of the props included in Scream VI and was thrown at the head of one of the other assassins.

During an interview with Variety, the directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin AND Tyler Gillette asked if Kirby shoving the TV at the killer to kill him was to prove to fans that the TV actually killed Stu. Unfortunately, Gillett’s answer was “Yes.” She went on to explain:

“This is scripted, in particular, as a brutal and ultimate kill. Guy and Jamie wrote that TV falls on Ethan’s head like a brutal and definitive kill.

Vanderbilt added:

“I loved that moment. Once we had the idea of her saying, “I saw that in a horror movie once,” we had to. It’s the ultimate pop up! It was more about that than saying something about all of Stu’s truth-teller out there.

While they’re saying that TV’s drop is an outright kill and that we shouldn’t expect to see Stu appear in the franchise again, when asked if Matthew Lillard could appear in a future film, Vanderbilt said, “There’s no It’s a good answer, so I’ll never confirm or deny things like that. But producer William Sherak said, “Anything is possible.”

Producer Paul Neinstein also said, “Characters can pop in and out! There are several ways to do this. It is such a part of all their lives; have an affinity for He shouted.”

So while they’ve ostensibly closed the door on Stu’s return by telling us that the televised kill is final, they’re also offering a small hope that maybe one day he might show up.

Would you like to see Stu come back? Do you think the filmmakers will ever bring the character back in a future film?
