ETERNALS Director Chloe Zhao Offers Update on Her Sci-Fi Western Movie DRACULA

A couple of years ago it was announced that Eternals director Chloe Zhao would direct to Dracula– inspired film that has been described as a “futuristic sci-fi western”.

I wondered if this project was still ongoing and in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he offered an update, saying, “Yeah, I’m writing the script right now.”

When the project was first announced, the director said: “I’ve always been fascinated by vampires and the concept of the Other they embody. I am very excited to be working with Donna, Peter and the Universal team to reinvent such a beloved character.”

Peter Cramer, President of Universal Pictures, added: “Chloé’s unique lens sheds light on the stories of people who are overlooked and misunderstood. We are thrilled to work with her as she reinvents one of the most iconic outsider characters ever created.

About a year after the project was announced, Zhao spoke about his vision for the project, saying, “I like that you have the question mark at the end: a ‘sci-fi western’? No, I like it. It’s just like looking at the book by Jessica Bruder [Nomadland], and really see behind the pages, discover the meanings behind each page and the essence of it. I’m a big fan of the book. And I wanted to see what essence I can find [in Dracula]and then being able to reinvent this really beloved character that I love so much.”

While I didn’t really care for Eternals, I can’t help but be curious as to how Zhao will handle Dracula in this upcoming project of his. It seems that it will be interesting, at least!

While we wait for this project, the public will be able to enjoy the new film inspired by Dracula Renfield, with Nicolas Cage as the Dark Lord. It looks funny!
