There are many examples of method actors who have taken their role very seriously, who, even off the set of recordings, have taken their characters off the screen and even committed heinous acts. But these dramatic films seem to have been marked by their protagonists, even if the result is totally far from what happened during the production.

It is known as “the Stanislavksi method” for a series of techniques and essays with which the artists try to get the best preparation to get into their characters’ feet. On many occasions, this performance is known to have made its mark actors and actresses commit crazy actslike transforming his body, but other times things go beyond that.

Nicolas Cage

Directed by Alan Parker, one of the dramatic films that made their protagonist lose his mind is ‘Birdy’ where Nicolas Cage plays Sergeant Al, a man obsessed with the Vietnam War. For his preparation, Cage asked to have some teeth pulled out, but without anesthesia, and not only that, because for four weeks he wore bandages on his head, which caused him a strong allergy, and some buried hair on his face. Available on Apple TV.

Shia LaBeouf

We can speak of several Shia LaBeaoufs crazy acts committed in moviesBut it’s what happened on the set of David Ayer’s ‘Fury’ that is truly shocking. First, his role as Boyd, a WWII soldier, made him stop taking baths, start chewing and smelling tobacco, getting real cuts on his face, having a tooth knocked out, and constantly arguing with its partners. Available on Netflix, Star+, Claro, Lionsgate+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Adrian Brody

One of the hardest to know cases of method actors who have taken their actions to another level in movies is that of Adrien Brody in ‘The Pianist’. The role of Wladyslaw Szpilman forced his protagonist to sell all his possessions to go and live in Europe. He locked himself in an apartment, which forced his girlfriend to leave him. And finally, he began to lose weight dramatically and played the piano until he could no longer feel his fingers.

Christian dance

Perhaps Christian Bale is one of the most recognized method actors in the industry for his impressive physical transformations. But it’s his role as Trevor Reznik in ‘The Machinist’ that gets the job. Bale dropped to 55 pounds, eating just an apple and coffee a day, and the following year, he ballooned to 86 pounds to bring Bruce Wayne to life in “Batman Begins.” Available on Claro, Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.

Robert Pattinson

It might not be a drama, but what Robert Pattinson did in ‘The Lighthouse’ stands out. The story follows two lighthouse keepers who have to spend several weeks together without losing their minds. But the one who really lost his temper was Pattinson, who on set threw up, licked mud, urinated and got drunk until he passed out.
