More than 38 years have passed since then Richard Donner AND Steven Sielberg’S The Goonies premiered, but Quan is still close to the film’s cast. After Quan won the Oscar, he walked into the press room to a standing ovation, and when asked how his younger self would welcome the Oscar win, the actor said:

“My younger self wouldn’t know all the struggles I had to go through to be here. Because he was just having fun as a kid, on set, on a pirate ship, going down a waterslide.

He then revealed that several of his Goonies co-stars reached out to him before the Oscars:

“Just before this night began, Corey Feldmann, called one of my brothers “Goonies”. i was talking to Kerry Green and of course tonight Jeff Coenwho is my entertainment lawyer, is here tonight with me. sean [Astin] reached back, Josh [Brolin], Martha [Plimpton]. We are always connected. We are family forever. Goonies never say die!

Of course, everyone was excited and cheering for Quan’s win, which everyone could see! Quan also got to reunite with his ex Indiana Jones co-star Harrison Ford, who presented the Best Picture award to the cast and crew. It’s always nice to see these two actors together! Then there was also his meeting with the director Steven Spielbergof which Quan said:

“During one of the commercial breaks I ran up to Steven Spielberg and he gave me a big hug. He hugged me and said: “Now you’re an Oscar-winning actor”. To hear him say he meant the world to me.

Quan then went on to explain what it meant to him to win this big prize with his birth name on it, not the previous name he used when he was in trouble:

“When I started as a kid [I used] my birth name Ke Huy Quan. I remember when it got really hard my manager told me maybe it would be easier if I had an American sounding name. And I was so desperate for a job that I would do anything… When I decided to get back into acting, the first thing I wanted to do was go back to my birth name. Tonight seeing Ariana open that envelope and say ‘Ke Huy Quan’ was a very, very special moment for me. The first image I had in my mind was my mother”.

I’m so happy for Quan and it’s so nice to know he’s still in touch with his Goonie friends.
