Well, now it looks like the long-awaited sequel could actually happen! Ankler insider Jeff Sneider reports that the sequel is “finally ready” with Burton reuniting to direct and Keaton returning to reprise his role as “bio-exorcist” Betelgeuse.
Thanks not all! Winona Ryder rumored to be returning as Lydia Deetz, e Catherine O’Hara returning as her stepmother, Delia Deetz. Oh yeah! AND Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) is also expected to play Lydia’s daughter!
Snyder She said: “I’m told Jenna Ortega has at least one offer to play Lydia Deetz’s daughter in BEETLEJUICE 2, which is finally a shot with Burton, Keaton, O’Hara and Ryder. That’s the word on the street…”
Plan B is producing the film, and in an interview with Deadline last year, Burton was asked about the sequel and said, “I only know if I’m making a movie when I’m actually on set shooting. I try to get back to root of everything. It comes from a seed and then grows, rather than from these statements. I’m working on ideas and things, but it’s all very early. We’ll figure out how it goes. How’s it going for an answer from nobody?”
When asked about the sequel a few years ago and what was going on, he said, “Nothing, nothing,” and when asked for his opinion on whether anything would ever happen, he replied, “I don’t know. I doubt.”
But, now that we’re at it, it looks like it’s actually happening! One of the original writers was previously quoted as discussing the possibility of a sequel, saying, “The point is, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton aren’t thinking about a sequel. Cockroach juice sequel unless it somehow captures the energy of the first film. And it’s not easy. Cockroach juice it really was bottled lightning. But there have been discussions since it really shocked everyone in 1988. And in terms of [planned sequel] Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian, the wiser heads prevailed. Thank God there’s a level of integrity here.”
Hopefully the creative team has come up with a great and fun story to tell with these characters! Are you excited about this?
