Bob Odenkirk will play Tommy Wiseau in the greenscreen remake of THE ROOM For Charity

The insanely bad cult classic drama The roomas a writer, director and actor Tommy Wiseau has been the topic of many conversations in Hollywood over the years. After its release in 2003, people started talking about the film, its acting and story, calling it so bad, it’s good. Then we saw James Franco turn the whole realization of The room in another film with 2017 biographical comedy-drama, The disaster artist.

Now the film is being revisited once again in a remake, featuring Better call Saul star Bob Odenkirk in the lead role. The project is mostly filmed via green screen and proceeds will benefit amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. The organization Acting For a Cause is also involved, though it’s unclear if they’re also benefiting from donations or if they’re just supporting the remake. Brando Crawford, the founder of Acting For a Cause, took directing credit in a recent Instagram post.

Acting for a Cause’s Jarad Schwartz took to Instagram to share a photo of himself with Odenkirk saying, “Something big coming this spring.” While that doesn’t offer much, it seems to confirm a release window for the remake. Additionally, all of the social media posts include virtually nothing but green screen, indicating that they used little in the way of practical sets to pull off this bizarre feat. When asked on Reddit if the project “is it select scenes or a movie,” actor Cameron Kasky replied, “Oh, full movie.” He also later confirmed on Twitter that director Crawford and Bella Heathcote (Pieces of her, The Neon Demon) will appear in the film.

It sounds pretty funny, and it’s for a good cause. You will tune in to see Odenkirk in the lead role in The room? I just hope you’re wearing a wig.
