Here’s an interesting little detail that you may have missed while watching Creed III. The boxing shorts that Adonis “Donnie” Creed wears in the ring, were inspired by the classic 80’s anime movie Akira!

This was confirmed by the film’s costume designer, Lizz Wolf, and concept artist Raphael Phillips who shared some concept art and the finished product on Twitter.

They knew Michael B. Giordano he’s a big fan of anime, so they said, “What if we show him Akira-inspired shorts?” We took a cue from Kaneda’s classic fit design lines and he loved it.

Sure, he loved it! I wasn’t really paying attention to the shorts while watching the movie, but to see them here and see how exactly they were inspired by Keneda’s jacket in Akira is pretty cool!

Creed III it was very influenced by the anime in many ways, from the story to the way it was shot, especially those fight sequences. This movie is truly a live-action anime movie, and I love it for that.
