Big changes are coming to the ‘Star Wars’ universe. In 2022 alone, we were able to enjoy three series on Disney+, but since 2019, no film has been released in theaters. Despite the fact that Lucasfilm has promised to release a film on the big screen in December 2025, Variety reports that the studio has temporarily or permanently abandoned two projects handled by big Marvel nameswhich is why its cinematic future is uncertain.

‘Star Wars’ would have archived two of its upcoming films and would have bet on those of Taika Waititi

Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige was working on an untitled film for the intergalactic saga, for which he would have hired screenwriter Michael Waldron, who had already worked with him on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. However, Variety reveals that this feature film It is no longer among Lucasfilm’s plans for the near future. It should be noted that Feige has a lot of work to do in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and even hired Waldron to write the climax story ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.

However, Feige’s isn’t the only film that would have been sidelined indefinitely. The director and screenwriter of ‘Wonder Woman’, Patty Jenkins, had in her hands ‘Rogue Squadron’, a film that despite falling from the Disney calendar, would continue development until now, which, according to the aforementioned North American media , has remained completely paralysed. Already in December the director had doubts about her: while assuring that she was still working on the film, she said she was not sure she would go ahead.

What are we left with?

By archiving these two great projects, the doubt remains as to which will be the next film to be released at the end of 2025. One of the well-known names that could fill that void is Taika Waititi, who after making his Marvel debut with ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is at the helm of a new film that follows his path, unlike those of Feige and Jenkins. Plus, it’s expected that she’ll not only be practicing behind the scenes, but have a small role in it., as usual. However, it is not certain that it will be ready by 2025 as the director is cautious: “If it’s not ready, it’s not ready. I don’t want to rush ‘Star Wars'”he said.

On the other hand, some sources assure the American newspaper that one of the next ‘Star Wars’ feature films will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (‘Ms. Marvel’) and will have Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson as screenwriters, respectively responsible for ‘Watchmen’ and ‘Counterpart’. Lucasfilm hasn’t yet commented on or confirmed whether it’s one of these projects, or a third one, closest to release, but let’s hope that among recent series they haven’t forgotten where it all came from: their movie.
