

‘Writing with fire’, the new UNAM TV documentary to commemorate Women’s Day (Courtesy)
As part of the commemoration of International Women’s Day, Mexican organizations and institutions, as well as groups and universities, join activities to recognize women who continue to fight, including, TV UNAM presents a preview of the documentary “Writing with Fire”one more than those presented in the month.
During the UNAM TV previews in March four documentaries about women who managed to make the history of cinema, journalism, politics and, of course, in the fight for gender equality. Among them is ‘Writing with fire’, a production by Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas which chronicles a group of women from a Dalit community in India.
The movie series TV UNAM commemorated by 8Mbegins with the screening of the documentary ‘Writing with fire’ (2021), by Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas, on the group of women who fought in India for freedom of the press, through the edition of the only newspaper that has been made exclusively by women and for its content, it was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Documentary category.
‘Writing with fire’ reflects on the power print has in the world, on certain sectors and their influence on education. Its production presents a series of testimonies of this group of women, who tell through their professional reality and their personal life, from the niche of their stories, immersed in the conviction of journalism as a tool to achieve democracy.

More documentaries and films will be presented on Tuesdays following the March 8 commemoration, including ‘Three Women and the Vote’, ‘Bessie Coleman’ and ‘Alice Guy. The unknown of the seventh art’.

Release date of documentaries and films made by women on TV UNAM
- March 8 / ‘Writing with Fire’: It is by Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas, made in 2021, under the documentation of the women’s group of the Dalit community of India, the advocacy of the right to freedom of the press, and the development of the only newspaper run exclusively by women in India.
- March 14 / ‘Three women and the vote’: It is a film by Beate Thalberg made in Austria in 2019, which brings to the viewer the story of three women who broke the living conditions of their environment, to face the reorganization of gender roles in 1910, in search of fair wages, self-determination and the right to vote.
- March 21/’Bessie Coleman. The first black aviator’: This is a production made by women, made by Oliver Sarrazain in France in 2018. Its plot? It was born from the story of Bessie Coleman, the female aviator who landed on the beach of Crotoy, France, on June 15, 1921, with her Nieuport 82 plane, becoming the first African American to obtain a pilot’s license. .
- March 28/ ‘Alice Guy. The unknown of the seventh art’: A work made by Nathalie Masduraud and Valérie Urrea in 2021 in France, recovering the story of who was the first French film director and producer, to direct the Gaumont studios, managing to make around 500 films.
This is another of the film staging activities that are held in March during March 2023 to commemorate International Women’s Day, to recognize their struggle and the 8M movement in all areas.
