To commemorate International Women’s Day, Cine Morelos, Mexico, presents the cycle of films “Ellas programan”, within the framework of 8Muniting activities to make the struggle of women around the world, and in particular the film and entertainment industry, visible.

THE The 8M activities of “Ellas programan” which will be carried out by Cine Morelos, will take place from March 9 to 12, with the staging of four Mexican films directed by women. The film cycle takes place from Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMMIN), the films were chosen by four women dedicated to film programming and screening in Mexico.

The project of IMMINcontemplates nine films chosen by Mexican women who throughout the country, in its different states, are dedicated to film programming and film exhibition: Jessica Rito, Diana Armenta, Anahí Estudillo and Yazmin Martín. Of the nine films selected, only four will be screened at Cine Morelos.

The films that IMCINE has chosen for Cine Morelos for 8M

  • The revolt: This is a film directed by Lucero González in 2022, with a duration of 84 minutes. Its plot takes place in the 70s when a group of Mexican women produced one of the most transgressive and valuable publications of the time: La Revuelta, considered the first feminist newspaper with the intention of spreading the ideas of this movement and broadening its social basis. network of the same in Mexico.
  • My friend Betty: It was directed by Diana Garay in 2012, telling the story of Bety, through her friend. Bety was sentenced to thirty years in prison, accused of the murder of her mother. Both had shared the same school, the same circle of friends, and the same walk through time.   • Black: With a duration of 72 minutes, this film directed by Medhin Tewolde brings the theme of racism to the table, the story of a woman who, at the age of just 7, experienced the inclement of being called “black” on the street.   • The farewells: From the famous Mexican director Natalia Beristain, ‘Los adioses’ focuses on Mexico City in the 50s. This film series celebrates his second edition in 2023 with a double female gaze, that is, all these films were not just made, but chosen by women. Through their films, Mexican filmmakers lead us to reflect, to face social complexities and inspire us with their stories.
