Florence Pugh defends her choice to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Before Florence Pug entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova, she was making a lot of lower budget films based on smaller characters like Arguing with my family, Mid summerAND Little Women. When she decided to have some fun and play in the Marvel sandbox, she was apparently told by a lot of people that she was never going back to making independent films.

During a recent interview with GamesRadar, he opened up about it and defended his choice to be a Marvel movie star. She said:

“When I first signed on with Marvel, a lot of people in the independent film world told me I would never go back to making small films, and that always hurt me because I think there is beauty in all kinds of things. those movies. There’s beauty in huge, epic storylines like Dune, like Marvel, like even Oppenheimer that I’ve done. They’re great, mega movies. And then there’s also beauty in all these little ones that not everyone is going to see, but they’re going to affect the right person at the right time. I never, ever thought I’d make just one type of film. I’ve always known that I want to dabble in all areas.

She is absolutely right, and this does not prevent her from acting in small film projects. In fact, her next film is an independent film from Zach Braff. It is entitled A good person, and was written especially for her. In the film, she plays Allison, “a young woman coping with grief after an unimaginable tragedy.” When she joins these films, being in the Marvel spotlight helps bring attention to them that they normally wouldn’t have. She went on to say that she would also like to direct one day:

“It’s also good for my brain to dabble in all areas. I’d love to direct. I know how important it is to have good dialogue with your director. I know how crucial it is. , I need to learn a little more and understand why things go where [they do]and really look at all these people I’ve been looking at.

“But personally I would feel too terrified of accidentally saying the wrong thing, or accidentally ruining someone’s day because I said, ‘Maybe not like that.’ I don’t know. All the things I personally felt while acting. I think I probably just need a few more years to practice the skill of steering a ship in a storm and pretend everything is fine. But I would love to one day .”

I’m sure one day the right opportunity will present itself with the right project. She is a talented actress and it would be interesting to see what she would do as a director. Ultimately, being involved with Marvel Studios will only help in her journey, not hinder it.
