SPOILERS WARNING!
*This article contains spoilers for Chapter 8 of “The Last of Us”.

The eighth and penultimate episode of ‘The Last of Us’ just premiered on HBO Max, a chapter in which, after being held captive by a group of cannibals and narrowly escaping alive, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) is reunited with Joel (Pedro Pascal). Together again, and with Pascal’s character in better health, the two embark on the end of their journey in the ninth chapter, which already has a first progress:
The preview shows us that Joel and Ellie’s long and complicated journey is coming to an end. Journey which, let us remember, His main goal is to transfer Ellie, a person immune to the virus, to the Fireflies base to try to create a cure. But, as ‘The Last of Us’ makes clear to us from its first episode, nothing in this apocalyptic world comes easy, so they’ll have more than one hardship along the way. Even if they have reached their destination, They seem to be in some pretty hostile territory. Are there fireflies? Are they legit? Do they really know how to develop a vaccine? The other big revelation that makes us anticipate is the appearance of Ashley Johnson, actress who gives life to Ellie in the video game. In the series she plays the mother of Ellie, the character we see cornered by an infected person in the small trailer. This could tell us the final chapter also confirms why Ellie is immune.
A controversial ending
‘The Last of Us’, adaptation of the beloved video game of the same name, has achieved something very difficult within the group of games-inspired films and series: satisfy the majority of people who have played it. However, in an interview with Vogue, Bella Ramsey promises a final episode that not all audiences will like: “It will divide people enormously.”

Ramsey didn’t specify why, but it could be two things. The first, taking into account that fidelity to the original material is a very delicate issue for the fandom, which one the conclusion of the series changes some very important aspects of the ending of the video game. The second possibility, although not the last one, is that the end of the HBO Max project is faithful to the video game and does not like most of the people who experience the story for the first time. Without going into spoilers, let’s remember that The closure of the video game caused a major division between its players at the timeso it would not be strange if this disagreement that had formed in its time was repeated, but this time among the new audience.
The last episode of the first season of ‘The Last of Us’ premieres on March 13 on HBO Max.
