Second Jon Favreauthere’s currently no end in sight for the live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian. He confirmed that they don’t have a planned series finale and that the characters “could potentially be with us for a while.”

So while this series could continue for years to come, don’t expect Mando and Grogu to transition into the era of the Star Wars prequel series, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker. Dave Filoni was recently asked about this in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and he said:

“That’s a great question, and we’re talking about many different things. By the way, it’s a question for a group of characters, not just Grogu. Where are they during these events? If anything, having made The Clone Wars and weaving a story so intricately between two movies that were much closer together, I learned that there’s a large space in this galaxy for us to tell stories and have characters do things.

“As a kid, when Yoda said, ‘When I’m gone, you’ll be the last of the Jedi,’ to Luke, I took that very literally. Well, now we know that’s far from true. There are a lot of people several that he could wield the force, and maybe Luke is the last Jedi as far as what Yoda would consider a Jedi. So we’ll just have to wait and see how the story unfolds and what makes sense. But in my experience, there’s definitely a way to weave it all together and make it exciting, it’s possible that it should never cross over with what we’ve seen [in the sequel trilogy] if history takes us somewhere else.”

Now, The Mandalorian has already referenced the sequel trilogy in a Season 2 episode, which potentially revealed Snoke’s origins — and the Season 3 premiere featuring Anzellans, AKA the Babu Frik species. But that’s all.

I think Star Wars fans will be fine with the series not having major crossovers with the sequel trilogy. Many fans would just like to think those movies don’t even exist.
