The only cast member who had been confirmed up to that point was Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, but now we know Andy Serkis also returning as butler to Wayne Manor, Alfred. In a recent interview with GQ, profiling Serkis’ career, Matt Reeves chimed in to talk about the actor’s abilities:

“He’s a genius. I remember when I signed on for The Batman, one of the first decisions I made, I said, ‘Andy, I want you to play Alfred and I want him to be really emotional. Because I want people to see your face – not an avatar – and truly understand what an incredible actor you are.’”

Reeves confirmed in the interview that Serkis would return in his upcoming sequel to The Batman. Serkis also plays the villain in the film Luther, which is currently in theaters and will arrive on Netflix on March 10th. The next, aside Batman – Part II, Serkis would like to focus on directing, producing and theater. He told GQ:

“I don’t have a burning desire to play [anyone]. What I want is to get back on stage. This is one thing I want to do for sure and I’m terrified of it.

Whatever Serkis does, I know it will be successful! He’s a great actor and I’m happy to see him back The Batman.
