While Ant-Man and The Wasp defeat Kang the Conqueror at the end of the film, that’s not the end of Kang. There are many more variations of Kang across the multiverse, and in one of the two post-credits scenes, we see them all come together and it gets pretty wild! This is all great preparation for what is coming in the Phase 6 movie, Avengers: Kang Dynasty.

Director Peyton Reed recently opened up on this post-credits scene, which spawned the pages of Avengers #267, which features Kang’s Council and evil variants filling a coliseum. He told CB:

“I directed the first one which is the Kang Council scene. We did this, in terms of, there’s a very famous comic panel where you see Kang Council and all these variations in there,” Reed continued. “We absolutely wanted to recreate that and give Jonathan [Majors] a starting point to address, ‘Who do we bring between variants?’ There’s Rama Tut and there’s a character based on Scarlet Centurion and, of course, Immortus. We wanted to complement Kurasawa Ran with it and make it really operatic.”

Rama Tut was previously referenced in Marvel’s Moon Knight series. So, it was fun to see Kang’s Egyptian ruler variant make his debut. Immortus is labeled the Kang of all Kangs as he is calling the shots for these variants and is expected to play a key role in The Kang Dynasty’s story. Reed added:

“There are some different Kangs and part of that was coming up with different versions and fast. It was sitting down with Jonathan and Stephen Broussard and talking like, ‘This could be perceived as this Kang and this Kang.’ But what we really wanted to show was just the entirety of it, how many variations there might be, when we get that final panel. Trying to recreate that famous panel in Kang’s Council down to the weird alien looking Kang in the top right corner, that was really fun to do. With Jonathan, obviously, that’s his weakness, playing all these different versions of Kang.”

As for the second credits scene, the one that connects to the Loki series, Reed did not direct that one. This was driven by Knight of the Moon directors Aaron Moore AND Justin Bensonthat are developing Loki Season 2.

What do you think of the two post-credits scenes in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania? Did it get you excited about the future of Marvel?
