A couple of weeks ago it was reported that Kevin Costner and Paramount+ disagreed about shooting schedules and how difficult it was to work with Costner. The report said that Costner only wanted to spend a week filming the remaining episodes of season five, and for that reason the network would end the series.
Paramount+ has refuted those claims, saying, “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope it will be that way for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world that she has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent that we would love to collaborate with.”
Now Costner is responding to those rumors and that he’s “causing morale problems for the other stars of the show.” According to Costner’s attorney, Marty Singer, these claims are “ridiculous”. He said:
“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work a week in the second half of Yellowstone season five is an absolute lie. It’s ridiculous – and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for a second. As anyone who knows anything about Kevin and is self-aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone to great lengths to ensure its success.”
As that statement comes out, there’s also another report from Puck’s Matthew Belloni regarding the situation between Costner and Paramount+ on the series. According to the report, Costner gave Yellowstone just one week this summer to shoot his scenes for eight episodes with two additional days scheduled later this fall for retreats. Due to these delays, Yellowstone season 5 part 2 is said to eventually release in the show’s sixth season initial window. The report goes on to say:
“But more likely, this is a relationship that has run its course. [Yellowstone creator Taylor] Sheridan is certainly furious, I’m told; he can’t finish writing Episode 5B until the Costner drama is resolved and his star is in or out. McCarthy, Sheridan and lead producer David Glasser have been reportedly planning Costner’s eventual exit for some time. And Sheridan has already considered killing John Dutton, but this time, as they say, it’s personal.”
So, we have multiple people saying that all of this drama is real and that there are issues with Costner, and then Costner denies it. I guess we will find out what is true or not when we see what is the fate of John Dutton as the series continues.
Regardless of what happens, the Dutton family saga will continue in a new series that will star Matthew McConaughey.
