We all know that director James Cameron he is known for making large-scale films that look best on the big screen. Movies like aliens, Terminator 2, Titanicand its Avatars franchises have all been shows that have taken film technology to the next level. So would the director ever consider doing something on a smaller scale, perhaps for TV? The short answer is no, at least not now.

In a recent interview with The LA Times, Cameron opened up about her love of the cinematic experience, saying:

“I don’t think it will ever go away, because it’s something specific. The arrangement we make to go dive without distractions, is like doing yoga or going for a walk in the forest for a couple of hours. There is something that I still think is sacred.”

That’s why you won’t see Avatars spin-off on Disney+ anytime soon, not to mention the price. He went on to say:

“Right now, the economy doesn’t make sense to bring any of our main CG characters to TV. But the cost of these things will progressively decrease as we introduce deep machine learning into processes and make them more automated. Ask me again in five years.

I think Cameron has a lot going on, and he’s also been planning the next few years of his career, between finishing his Avatars run and other projects he is interested in. So there’s no need to expand yet. But maybe years from now, if he’s looking for something, the idea can be revisited.
