‘Ghostbusters’: Ernie Hudson says he was ‘selectively removed’ from film script and marketing

After almost 40 years since the premiere of the first ‘Ghostbusters’ film, Ernie Hudson, one of the protagonists, has stated that he was not treated in the same way as his peers and that both the shooting and the theatrical release of the film were, from a psychological point of view, the hardest of his career.

Hudson said on Howard Stern’s radio show (via IndieWire) that the “Ghostbusters” production company did not include him or his character. The actor has indicated that filming is complete “very, very difficult because I was part of them, but then I was selectively set aside… In the original script, Winston was in the beginning of the film, but at the time of shooting, Winston was in the middle of the film. All those things… I definitely thought it was intentional.”.

Hudson starred in the first ‘Ghostbusters’ movie with Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, though it did not appear on the film poster. Hudson states that: “When the posters came out, I wasn’t there. It took a long time. I went to the movie’s 30th anniversary release and all the posters had three guys on it. different way, and I’m very thankful to the fans because they basically identified with Winston, especially the young, I don’t mean minority kids, but a lot of kids.”.

Hudson stated it try not to take it personallyadding that: “If you’re an African American in this country and something bad happens to you, you can always blame it on being black. It was very difficult to make peace with ‘Ghostbusters'”.

Also, of his role in the first film, and despite how he claims to have felt, Hudson is back to play Winston in sequel ‘Ghostbusters 2’ and recently appeared in the reboot of the ‘Ghostbusters: Beyond’ saga. The actor further confirmed to Howard Stern on the show about him that: “Even now, we’re negotiating a new movie that’s gearing up to start shooting in March, and I’m like, ‘Guys, there’s a place… I’m not an addition. So if I’m going to do it, it has to make sense.”.
