In late January, James Gunn came out of the closet to debunk the rumors surrounding DC Studios, and confirmed plans for upcoming movies, HBO Max series, video games and animation for the company’s future. Now, the latest speculation ensures that Jason Momoa wouldn’t mind continuing as Aquaman, since he already has a new future secured at the company.
This same Tuesday, February 21, rumors of insiders began circulating stating that “Aquaman and the lost kingdom’ it had been a failure in its test screenings. While there is no official information on the matter so far, more details about it have since started to emerge. Presumably, Warner should have fixed this film immediately, due to the poor response among fans.
Now, Jeff Sneider, a member of Hollywood Reputation, has mentioned it Jason Momoa wouldn’t mind continuing as Aquaman in DC Comics, and that he could leave the franchise, after the disastrous test screenings: “I heard it’s terrible and that’s why Momoa will be Lobo in the future. But they can’t say yet because then it would be a disaster… and DC hopes to make another billion at the box office.”
Presumably, a Jason Momoa only cares about being Wolf in the new DC universe. However, James Gunn himself has denied in the past that Momoa will play the character in the future of the DC Extended Universe. But some believe that this is just a strategy not to spoil the premiere of “Aquaman 2” with Amber Heard, as it could be a loss.

‘Aquaman 2’ and the end of Jason Momoa at DC Studios
It is worth mentioning that “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will be released in December of this year and will close all the DC Studios films that were planned for the future of the EUDC. After that, the reboot of ‘The Flash’ will begin to take effect in the company’s cinematic universe.
While James Gunn has opened the door for Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Gal Gadot to return to their characters in the future, none of them have a project or a confirmed film appearance. Either way, there are many months left until the premiere of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ arrives, and anything can happen during the film’s finishing touches.
On December 25, 2023, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will be released in theaters and will be the official farewell of Jason Momoa as Arthur and Amber Heard as Mera. Until then, we have to wait for official confirmation from James Gunn or DC Studios regarding the franchise.
