This year marks the 20th anniversary of the classic romantic comedy, How to Lose a Boyfriend in Ten Days. This is a movie I’ve seen at the theater, bought when it came out, and watched countless times over the years. It’s such a great movie with a funny story, two punctual comedians with amazing on-screen chemistry, quotable lines, and a lot of heart.

In celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary, the stars of the film, Kate Hudson AND Matthew McConaugheycame together to do an Instagram Live, where they got to reminisce, answer questions, and reveal never-before-told stories from behind the scenes.

One story they told involved filming the scene near the end of the film, in which the two main characters discover that they both had been lying to each other about their intentions in the relationship. Hudson’s character Andie was using McConaughey’s Ben as the subject of an article titled “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days,” and Ben made a bet with his boss to prove he could make a woman fall in love with him in the long run. same way. time span.

The two find out, and a drunken brawl ensues that ends with a loud, angry karaoke version of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain.”

Speaking of shooting the scene, Hudson said:

“I remember, that scene was actually kind of difficult for us because it was like, at least for me, maybe and maybe not for you. But, kind of, along the lines of, clearly this is this big moment in the movie, but it was like this…”

McConaughey then smiled, knowing exactly what Hudson was trying to say, and continued:

“Underneath, probably because of things that were happening in character and out of character and off set, we were kind of hiding from each other. We were legitimately pissed at each other in a really cool way. It was that line like you can go, but just remember that ends with fascination, they end up joining. I remember having some scenes like, “OK, it worked.” But can we inject a little more charm and love and desire and lust in there?

He went on to add:

“I think by then we had added up all the ways we’d hurt each other.”

I’m sure that comes after long days and long nights shooting movies under certain circumstances. What they did get though was a great movie with great chemistry, so they did something right. It’s also nice to see them together again and to know that the hassles on set didn’t ruin their friendship.
