Evangeline Lilly Admits She Turned Down X-MEN Role Because She ‘Didn’t Like Superhero Movies’

Actress Evangelina LilliHer career really took off when she landed the role of Kate in the hit series Lost. She has become a household name and Hollywood has taken notice, imagining her in all kinds of roles. A role she was offered in a roundabout way when she acted alongside Hugh Jackman in the 2011 film Real steel.

Lilly explained on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Deadline):

“[Jackman] he was like, ‘Hey, so, the X-Men guys are asking me if I can approach you because they know you’re not going to talk to anyone. They knew I was working with you and they were interested to know if you would ever be interested in doing an X-Men thing. I was like, ‘Nope. I am not interested. I am not interested.’ I was like, ‘I feel like such a jerk because I’m talking to an X-Men! The X-Men! And I’m telling him, ‘No, this doesn’t appeal.’ Like what?! I felt so rude!”

Lilly also revealed that she turned down an offer from Joss Whedon playing Wonder Woman for an unproduced DC film in the 2000s. His reasoning?

“Honestly, I didn’t like superhero movies and that’s the main reason why, in both cases, I felt like I didn’t know what to get out of them. I was often very critical of them. Like, I was known to mock and treat them as inferior forms of entertainment until Marvel came along.”

From where they were shooting Real steelonly Iron man, The Incredible HulkAND Iron man 2 he had gone out. While Iron Man was awesome, it still wasn’t clear how big, sprawling, and incredible the MCU was going to be. Her perspective of her changed and she continued to play Hope van Dyne, AKA The Wasp, in 2015 Ant manits 2018 sequel, Ant-Man and the Waspas well as making an appearance in Avengers: Finale. He reprises the role in the newly released threequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania.

I’m sure she’s glad to stick it out, as she would never have been the Wasp had she taken on another franchise. It seemed that everything turned out for the best.
