Happy 21 years, american idol. The long-running singing competition is kicking off its 21st season with the first round of auditions. The first contestant of the new season turns 16 madison kindergarten.

next is lucia love, a 28-year-old mother of two from Arkansas. she performs Marvin Gaye “Heard It Through The Grapevine” for the judges. The judges like his voice, but Lionel wants him to do all the tricks for his performance. Lucy gets a second chance to prove herself and she sings “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway. Katy and Lionel are getting up and Katy even wipes away a tear. Lucas Bryan he admits that he ruled it out, but Lucy “proved me wrong”. Lucy is on her knees as she gets a ticket to Hollywood.
Colin Stough has the ‘magic’
hard colin He’s a boy from a small town in Mississippi. The 18-year-old has been raised by his mother for most of his life. He struggles to get out of his small town and make something of himself. He wows the judges with his rendition of “Simple Man” from Lynyrd Skynyrd. Luke declares Colin is “what american idol treats.” Katy says Colin has the “magic” material they’re looking for.
Colin gets a “yes” from all three judges. “That boy was born to be a star,” Katy says after Colin leaves the room. Outside, Colin breaks down in tears over receiving a golden ticket.
Lyrical medeiros she is the daughter of Glenn Medeiros, singer of the 80’s hit “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You”. The Hawaiian native features a sweet version of kelsea ballet flats “Love me how you want”. Katy doesn’t want Lyric to be “pretty and confident” with her performance. Lyric sings a second song: by Carrie Underwood “Before I cheated.”
They interrupt the lyric during the performance. Katy gets up from her seat and “wrestles” with Lyric to see if she can show some courage. There must be a voice there. But can she compete? Lionel thinks so and wants to see Lyric take on some “fighters”. Luke doesn’t think she’s ready for the competition. Zechariah blacksmith He is 19 and currently grills at Bill’s Hamburgers in Amory, Mississippi. He wows the judges with his rendition of “Hurts So Good” from John Mellencamp. Lionel loves Zachariah’s grunting and rudeness. Luke tells Zachariah to “burn the apron” because he’s destined for Hollywood. Zachariah easily secures a ticket to Hollywood.
Iam Tongi makes the judges cry
they are tongs has one of the most moving auditions. His father passed away a few months ago, so he dedicates his beautiful version of “Monsters” to him. James Blunt because your father Iam makes Luke and Lionel cry and gets a standing ovation from all the judges. Katy tells Iam that her voice is “so beautiful”. Luke adds, “You just made everything perfect.” Lionel says, “History is one thing. Her delivery of the story about him was phenomenal. I get a “yes” from all the judges: he’s going to Hollywood!

Megan Daniella you walk before the judges below. The Georgia waitress shifted her focus to Christian music. She sings “You say” from Lauren Daigle. It turns out that Lauren has a show in Vegas and stops by. american idol. He walks in during Megan’s performance and sings with her. It’s a super sweet moment.
“What you have is real honest rawness,” Luke tells Megan. “It’s like a diamond in the rough happens.” Katy continues with, “You have that edge in your voice. It’s so authentic.” Megan gets a “yes” from every judge and a golden ticket.
Tyson Venegas Receives Platinum Ticket
Tyson Venegas he’s only 17 and traveled from Vancouver to compete in the American idol. He had a speech delay when he was younger and music helped develop his speech. Tyson is a big fan of Lions. Tyson transcends the listening room with his rendition of ‘New York State of Mind’.
Receives a standing ovation from the judges. “It was amazing,” says Lionel. Tyson’s mother is brought in to hear the judges’ praise. “That performance was perfect,” adds Lionel. Luke tells Tyson that he’s “just what we’ve been looking for, what we’ve been praying for.” The judges give Tyson the first platinum ticket of the season. This means that you will spend a full day at Hollywood week. Lionel admits he’s never “seen anything so talented” since they got here.
Jack Nicorà appears with his bird named Mango. the 19-year-old is a big fan of doo wop music and sings “In The Still of the Night” by the five satins. As the judges sing, they don’t think Jack is ready to do it american idol. Jack gets a “no” from all 3 judges.
The last show of the evening is Kya Mone’Who was by Willie Spence Best friend. Season 19 runner-up Willie tragically passed away in a car accident in October 2022. Kya was Willie’s duet partner during Hollywood week that season and they established a “very close friendship.”
She reveals that 3 days before he died, Willie told her he had to go home. Idol and follow your dream. “She was supposed to be here with me today,” Kya says. She decides to sing “I’m Here” by the color purple, a song she and Willie chose together.
Kya gets emotional during her performance and cries at the end. She receives a standing ovation from the judges. Lionel gets up and hugs her. “That performance was so moving, so heartfelt, so divinely guided in the glorious name of our dear brother,” he says. Katy tells Kya that her performance was “on another level” and that she was “connected to the pain”. Kya gets a golden ticket to Hollywood and you know Willie is somewhere just as proud to continue chasing her dream.
