When James Gunn initially announced that DC Studios would develop a Batman: The brave and the bold film starring Bruce Wayne and his son Damian, he said it would include other characters from the larger “Bat family.” The first character I thought of when I heard it was Nightwing. He was pretty obvious to me then, but now it’s been confirmed.
Over the weekend Gunn shared a roster of ten characters and said he has five of them planned. Those characters included Nightwing, Martian Manhunter, Lobo, Brainiac, Deathstroke, Red Hood, Zatanna, The Court of Owls, Mister Freeze and John Constantine.
After sharing it, Gunn responded to an article that listed eight characters expected to appear in the DCU franchise including Nightwing, Arsenal, Vixen, Terra, Kyle Rayner, Jon Kent, Static, and Cassandra Cain’s Batgirl. Gunn’s response that four of those characters will definitely appear.
Nightwing is in both lists, so it’s safe to see him in the DCU. As for what other characters will appear on the lists, nobody knows! But I hope at least some of them are Mister Freeze, Zatanna, Little Red Riding Hood, Lobo and Batgirl. As for the John Constantine mention, the Keanu Reeves sequel is happening, and from what I understand it will be separate from what Gunn is doing, just like Matt Reeves is doing with The Batman and Todd Phillips is doing with The Joker. So, does that mean we could possibly see two different versions of John Constantine running around?
