It looks like Warner Bros. Discovery has pulled the plug on another great new thing Scooby-Doo scroll, Scooby-Doo and the Haunted Skyscraper, which was to feature the Hex Girls and their killer tunes. Animator Carolyn Gair spilled the beans during a chat with JayBee & Milly’s YouTube channel, revealing that the project was put on hold for a tax write-off before animation could even begin. He explains, however, that before it shut down, they had already recorded the film’s dialogue and Hex Girls songs. Garir said:
“I think Haunted High Rise was even more fun than the first one, because we had the Hex Girls, and new songs, and we did everything. We had motorcycle chases down the halls. Joe called me up and said, ‘He has the studio contacted you?’ And I said no. I think this was early October, and he said, ‘Oh well, someone should reach out to you, I’m afraid it’s been shelved and it’s a financial decision and I think Warner Bros. is getting a tax credit to shelve it and cancel it, so it’s dead dead dead, I think because of the merger with Discovery.’
“They just took a look at everything that was going to stream, everything that was going to HBO Max, and they drew a red line through everything, they figured out how much they spent. You know, the saddest part is that it would have cost the same to put away as it would have done to make it, because it was already a frozen image and in animation. That was another reason they did the two movies back to back because they had an animation studio they could employ.
“It feels so sad, since it’s already so close, but I don’t understand the politics or how financial decisions are made at Warner Bros., but I don’t think they’re going to bring it back. My producer keeps saying he doesn’t think he’ll come back to life. But, perhaps, who knows? It was a frozen picture, all the dialogue, the songs were recorded, he was ready to animate.”
Looks like this Scooby-Doo movie was going to be a lot of fun! Too bad it was demolished. But hey! There is always the Velma series for you to get your fix of Scooby-Doo! They made sure to keep that trash around to hate!
