Rich Hull, founder of Spanish-language streaming service Vix, moves to an advisory role at TelevisaUnivision and reinvests in media and technology through Avalanche Capital

Rich Hull is joining TelevisaUnivision in an advisory capacity following the Spanish media giant’s acquisition of Vix, the Spanish-language streaming service he founded.

At TelevisaUnivision, which acquired Vix in 2021 and later added premium partner Vix+, Hull served as interim head of global sales for the company. He will now reinvest in media and technology through his reactivated company Avalanche Capital, which was originally founded in 2012. Hull’s first project as CEO of Avalanche is to arrange a financing package for Paulist Productions and the US Army Chaplain Corps for the documentary Fighting Spirit: The Journey of a Fighting Spirit. Budgeted at $3 million fighting spirit is now in post-production. Hull is producing alongside Michael Sullivan, Tom Gibbons, Daniel Schnider and former US Army Chaplain Justin D. Roberts.

Under the Avalanche banner, Hull engineered a collection of struggling Spanish-language film and television libraries and technology assets that became known as Vix after they merged with Pongalo. The company closed 30 other deals in media and technology. The plan for Avalanche now focuses on artificial intelligence and celebrity-powered products, among other things. It recently took a stake in AI platform VeBu, whose name is short for “enterprise builder.” VeBu has developed AI offerings with brands such as Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto and Chipotle.

“With the potential for another recession looming, I see similar market conditions today to when I first started buying Spanish-language content libraries 10 years ago—the catalyst for me starting a Spanish-language streaming service,” Hull said. . “With Vix in good hands at TelevisaUnivision and continued success after success at scale, I look forward to returning to the entrepreneurial projects I love and executing the same playbook again.”

Before founding Avalanche, Hull was a film and television producer and financier. Among the more than two dozen projects he backed was a breakthrough teen film she is everything and Halle Berry narrated documentaries For the Love of Liberty: The Story of America’s Black Patriots.
