It turns out that Kang is actually Marvel’s highest rated villain with a screening test audience! That little bit of news comes from the head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feigewhich he shared in a recent interview with EW:
“For years, we’ve always had a feeling that Kang would be a great follow-up to Thanos. He’s the same stature in the comics, but he’s a completely different villain. Mainly, because he has more villains. He’s so unique from Thanos, that we liked Very.
“At the dawn of Quantummania [test screenings], Jonathan started playing great. He’s the most challenging villain we’ve ever had among our friends and families [screenings]. That’s really saying something with a movie like this. Even in the beginning without the effects, Jonathan is his own effect. He was working from the start.”
Majors gives a phenomenal performance as Kang. The guy is just an incredibly talented actor, and it’s no surprise that audiences and fans alike will love the way he brings this sinister character to life. I had nothing but great things to say about him in my review of the movie
Majors have already talked about Kang, how smart he is, and how he’s “Kang against the world.” The majors explained:
“I mean, he’s hyper-intelligent—it’s one of the superpowers. His brain function is just above even smart kids. He’s at that level. And gravitas is a necessity. It’s Kang against the world, isn’t it? At least that’s his point of view. There is no frivolity. Kang himself is very thrifty. He understands energy, he understands time, he understands what it takes to survive. He can’t stand fools. Which is interesting because he doesn’t say anything pejorative about Ant-Man, but Ant-Man is a prankster. He’s a funny guy. And now there’s Scott Lang taking on Kang the Conqueror, who’s not kidding. He’s got a sense of humor. find out. But he’s not kidding.
Paul Rudd also teased Ant-Man taking on the villain in the MCU:
“He’s a formidable foe – the understatement of the century. Scott has never faced anyone like this. It’s Kang the Conqueror! Thanos is obviously the closest but, yes, he has none of the others [Avengers] band with him. How do you stop someone like that? It’s not easy. Whether or not Scott is successful, people are going to see it…but I think hopefully the emotion, and wanting to do what he’s trying to do, makes sense to the audience. I hope they’re rooting for me.”
It’s also no surprise that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Kang in the MCU. After all, Phases 5 and 6 are known as the Kang Dynasty and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania puts everything in style!
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania hits the big screen February 17.
