It is explained that the film “highlights the stigma associated with substance abuse and the seemingly endless cycle that many people battle…” It was written and directed by Ryan Lacenand this is the synopsis:
As a young girl in New Mexico, Chama (Melissa Barrera) tried to be different from her mother. Now in her twenties, she has fallen into a similar cycle of generational dependency. This struggle threatens her balance as mother of her daughter. While Chama tries to keep everything together, a heartbreaking accident causes her to spiral out of control and take her daughter away. With nothing left, she will have to confront her past to fight for a future, a future that can either guide her closer to having her daughter back or lead her deeper into this dangerous cycle.
The whole world sleeps even stars Jackie Cruz, Jorge Garcia, Kristen Gutosky, Valentina Herrera, Lysandra TenaAND Louis Bordonada. The film appears to offer an intimate look at how difficult it is to break free from the shackles of addiction.
Gravitas will debut The whole world sleeps in select theaters and on VOD starting March 17.
