Kelsea Ballerina is telling his side of the story in his new six-song EP, Roll up the welcome mat. The record is incredibly raw and personal, with Kelsea delving into her decision to divorce. Morgan Evans in 2022. The EP’s first song, “Mountain With a View,” features a direct response to the song Morgan wrote about the breakup itself, “Over For You.” In Morgan’s song, he wonders when Kelsea’s marriage ended and why she decided to hang up.
As it turns out, that moment happened when Kelsea was spending time in Big Sur, California (on a “mountain with a view,” of course), while Morgan was across the lake doing shows. In the chorus, Kelsea sings, “I still wear the ring, but I think I’m lying. Sometimes you forget yours, I think we are tired of trying. I realize you loved me, much more at 23, I guess it’s over for me.”
On the bridge, Kelsea actually makes a direct reference to Morgan’s music, singing, “I guess that’s when I cut ties, I guess that’s when I broke free, one day you’ll ask, ‘When is this over for you?’ ” . Morgan first performed the song in a concert in September, then officially released it a few weeks later.
One of the biggest takeaways from Kelsea’s new EP is that she married Morgan at a very young age. She also suggests that the distance due to the couple’s busy careers has affected their relationship. On a later track, “Blindside,” she calls out Morgan for acting so shocked about the breakup, asking, “Were you shocked or just blindsided?”

In the song, Kelsea points out that there were many signs Morgan should have seen before filing divorce papers. “Now you’re saying you’re lost, and that’s lost to me,” she sings. “Years sitting across from me in therapy. I know the truth is hard to hear, but it wasn’t hard to find.” He also suggests that the differing views on the future may have been part of the reason for the split, adding, “You never wanted to leave home or you didn’t want a family.” By the end of the song, she becomes stern, adding, “That’s nothing new to you baby, you’ve been in that relationship. That’s nothing new to you.”
Kelsea also recalls the relationship fondly, as she recalls her wedding day in the first verse of the song “Just Married”. However, she also admits that she wasn’t cut out for marriage at such a young age. “I’m not made to fix a plate, nor to bury our problems,” she sings. “I wasn’t strong enough to carry on with all the weight I was carrying, yes it was love so I was just married.” On deck, she Kelsea reminisces about their “beautiful wedding” and says she “she wasn’t ready to call it off, yeah.”
On the EP’s final song, “Leave Me Again”, Kelsea wishes Morgan good luck on the holidays. “I hope you are spending Christmas with your family, I hope you are writing songs you love, I hope you are happier than ever,” she sings. However, the song’s message is one of empowerment in its own right, as she adds, “I hope I never leave again.”
