Dave Hollis dies: The former Disney Worldwide sales manager was 47 years old

Dave Hollis, a former Disney executive and president of the studio’s worldwide distribution, has died at his home in Austin, TX. He was 47.

A representative said Hollis died peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 11. An exact cause of death has not been determined, but his family confirmed that he was hospitalized with heart problems.

Hollis spent 17 years at Walt Disney Studios helping the company break industry box office records, eventually rising to President of Worldwide Distribution. He left the company in May 2018 to move to Texas and become the CEO of Chic Media, a company founded by his then-wife Rachel Hollis, the author, motivational speaker and entrepreneur.

Hollis became Disney’s head of theatrical distribution in January 2011, succeeding retired veteran Chuck Viane. As for the legacy of Hollis, in 2016 his department led the studio to a record $7 billion at the global box office. In total, he oversaw 12 Disney releases, over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, and one over $2 billion (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) during his last seven years in the role.

Before distribution, Hollis moved up the VOD/DVD window 30 days with Disney’s 2010 hit Alice in Wonderland. He also led Disney’s Cinema Partnerships initiative, working with exhibitors to enhance the cinema experience through customized content programming and offerings.
