The arrival of artificial intelligence has recently caused a lot of uproar in several industries and has once again led to debate about how this technology will impact jobs that previously required a human. But in practice, many of these systems are already built into our daily lives. This love movie shows what a love story between a man and an artificial intelligence would be like, and you can watch it on Netflix.
It’s about ‘His’, a romantic film that has arrived on Netflix early this February. The film is directed by Spike Jonze and stars Joaquin Phoenix opposite Rooney Mara, with the special participation of Scarlett Johansson as the voice of the operating system. This sci-fi drama was nominated for an Oscar and has since become a classic of the genre.
The story of ‘His’ it shows what it would be like to fall in love with an AI, at a time when AIs have started a debate about how this technology could take away some jobs in the future. But beyond that, this movie is important because it was about a modern topic, when it was just 2013 and AI was seen as something that would come several decades in the future.
But that world has already reached us, and we see it in the story of Theodore Twombly, Joaquin Phoenix’s character, a writer of letters to other people who is going through a difficult time in his life. The love of his life asks for a divorce and, despondent, buys a operating system based on an Artificial Intelligence to meet all your needs in a vulnerable moment.

AIs and Their Ability to Generate Emotions in “She”
Throughout the history of science fiction, the question of whether a machine programmed with ones and zeros can generate empathetic emotions with humans has been an attractive theme for the genre. Stories like “Ex-Machina” or Alex Garland’s “Blade Runner 2049”, to name a few, have approached the subject from different angles, but “Her” does it from a closer space.
By way of letter, director Spike Jonze imagined the story of ‘Her’ in response to ‘Lost in Translation’, another love story in times of megapolis in which Scarlet Johansson and Bill Murray bring to life a fleeting romance of love that plays on the verge of a sudden friendship between two people who have just met during a trip to Tokyo.
So, in addition to being a love story, ‘Her’ is also a letter in response to the romance between Spike Jonze and director Sophia Coppola. Therefore, if you want to enjoy this February 14th with a pessimistic and futuristic dose of what a love story of the future could be like, you shouldn’t miss out on this movie.
