Michelle Yeoh Said People Told Her She Should Retire Before Starring in ALL EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE

Michelle Yeoh she is known for her films Tomorrow never dies, bowed tiger hidden dragon, Memoirs of a geishaAND Crazy Rich Asiansbut last year he starred in the blockbuster Everything everywhere all at once, and her performance earned her the Golden Globe for Best Actress as well as an Academy Award nomination. We’ll have to wait a few weeks to see if she takes home that award as well. But as it turns out, this role couldn’t have come at a better time.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times podcast The Envelope (via GamesRadar), Yeoh said:

“As you get older, the roles get smaller. It seems like the numbers get bigger and these things get smaller, and then you start getting relegated more and more. So when Everything Everywhere came along… It was very exciting because that means that you’re the one who’s driving the whole process, who’s telling the story.”

In the film, directed by Daniele Kwan AND Daniel Scheinert (AKA the Daniels), Yeoh plays Evelyn Wang, a woman who is drawn from her ordinary life as a laundromat owner on an adventure across the multiverse, when she discovers that she is the only one who can save every existing world from a ominous threat.

“You know, as you get older, people start saying, ‘Oh yeah, you should retire. You should do this. You should…’ No, guys. Don’t tell me what to do. I should be in control of what I want in it. I’m capable, right?”

I’m so glad he didn’t listen! Michelle Yeoh is an incredible actress and she gave a wonderful performance in this film. I hope she gets the Oscar for it. Find out when the awards air on March 12.
