As you know, Michael Keaton he ended up in the role, but there was a long process to bring him in. At one point, he turned down the role and so the studio had to cast another actor for the role. That actor was Leguizamo. During an interview with CB, the actor revealed that he negotiated the deal and that he was ready to play the character, but then Keaton decided he wanted to be him in the film. The actor explained:
“I was supposed to be the Vulture. We’d negotiated and I was going to play him, and they said Michael Keaton wanted him back and they asked me if I’d opt out. I said, ‘Fine, fine, I guess. ‘ They said, ‘No, we’ll work with you again, we’ll do…’ That’s what happened there.”
As for what ended up being that runner-up role, it was too small for Leguizamo and he turned it down. He said, “They offered me something tiny. I said, ‘Nuh uh.'”
It’s a shame. While I enjoyed Keaton as The Vulture, it’s not hard to imagine Leguizamo playing him, he would have been a fun choice too! It sucks that the studio offered him a shitty role after that. But, who knows, maybe one day Marvel will cast him in a future film in a better role!
