Sometime this month, Green Ronin will be releasing the second edition of Fantasy AGE. This is very exciting in my opinion for tabletop RPG fans. I love BEECH TREE and looking forward to this update. As enthusiasm for the new edition grows, Malcolm Sheppard shared some details about different parts of the book. In late January, she shared some insight into ancestry (their term for race/species), and more recently, classes have been the subject of discussion.
For ancestors, the list has been provided with nine ancestors that will be available and all have been reviewed and revised for the new edition of BEECH TREE. There will also be rules and guidelines for playing characters of mixed ancestry. Sheppard also shared that a new addition to the game is Ancestry Talents to help you deepen your connection to your ancestors if you choose. The example we’re given is Dwarven Secrets which starts out by letting you know your direction when inside and underground, but eventually gets bonus acrobatic points with Axes and increased spell resistance. Here is the list of available ancestors.

As for the classes, we already knew that we will only have four options: Envoy, Mage, Rogue and Warrior. Envoy is a new social class and a preview of it has been provided. I recommend you go see it because it looks fun. Each class has undergone some changes based on playtest feedback and developer experience. Also, there are now classy stunts that you’ll get as you level up, and they’re designed to be a bit stronger than the general stunts that everyone can access. Each class has also been given features to help with damage scaling, and you can choose your specialization at level one instead of waiting until level four. The specializations have also been revised and even brand new ones await the fans.
An envoy is a master of social situations, building or leveraging relationships and group interactions. The classic envoy is an agent of a ruling court or council who does the bidding of their superiors and works to increase their influence and rank. You can also use envoy to represent anyone primarily concerned with deals, diplomacy, leading, or deceiving others, from a noble captain of the guard to a scoundrel with a heart of gold, or even a crook.
These updates are very exciting. It seems like a new post is released about once a week, so next week we look forward to hearing about the level improvements. What excited you most about playing BEECH TREE 2E?
