Barbra Streisand’s first memoir, My Name Is Barbra, is out this fall

In a first personal account of her life and career, legendary singer, actress, director and producer Barbra Streisand will release her memoir. my name is barbara, on November 7, 2023 via Penguin Random House Imprint Viking. The Penguin Group made it official on Tuesday, calling the theme “captivating and delightful.” Dozens of books have been written about the artist, now 80, but this will be the first to tell her story in her own words.

And there are many words per account. For pre-order lists, it is 1,040 pages. It’s fitting for a woman whose groundbreaking career spanned six decades and included two Oscars, five Emmys, 10 Grammys, 11 Golden Globes and a Tony, among countless other awards.

Streisand is one of the few EGOT winners and has one of the most recognizable voices in pop music history. She has been nominated for a Grammy 46 times. She received her first Oscar in 1968 for Best Actress in a Breakthrough Role as Fanny Brice Funny girl. She followed that up with a win for Best Original Song for “Evergreen,” the subject of A star is bornShe is the first female composer to win an Oscar in this category.

At 83 years old Yentl, she was the first woman to write, produce, direct and star in a major motion picture. Her 1991 adaptation The Prince of the Tides was nominated for seven Oscars, including best picture, but not best director, as this year’s Oscar host Billy Crystal exclaimed in his opening song and dance. Other film credits include What is it, Doctor?; Hello Dolly; As we were And The mirror has two faces.

Her memorable #1 singles include “The Way We Were”; “evergreen”; “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” a duet with Neil Diamond; “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)” featuring Donna Summer; and “Woman in Love”.

Per Penguin Random House (whose Century imprint is published in the UK), my name is barbara Streisand will follow her life from her childhood in Brooklyn to her first appearances in New York nightclubs and the long streak of success across all media in the years that followed.

The book, according to the editor, “is like Barbra herself: honest, funny, quirky and charming. She talks about her early attempts to become an actress and finally to sing for a living. the recording of some of their award-winning albums; the years of effort it took to do so Yentl; their direction The Prince of the Tides; her friendships with personalities from Marlon Brando to Madeleine Albright; her political advocacy; and the satisfaction she found in her marriage to James Brolin.”

“My Name Is Barbra” was also the title of a 1965 Streisand album and TV special that received a Grammy and two Emmys, respectively.
