We’re now learning some behind-the-scenes details of what Roiland was like in the workplace, and it looks like it was quite bizarre and chaotic. These details come from a scathing report by The Hollywood Reporter, which spoke to dozens of anonymous staffers at Rick and Morti.

One of the things they explain is that Roiland never showed up for work. At one point during Rick and Morty season 3, multiple sources say Roiland simply stopped showing up — and when he showed up at the Burbank offices, he typically avoided the writer’s room. In fact, colleagues at Roiland often only knew he was there because they could hear his dogs or because they could hear his remote-controlled car, with a microphone on it, zooming around the office. They also say that when Roiland showed up, he would give personal tours to stars of the adult entertainment like Riley Reid.

The sources went on to say that while creating the third season, Roiland received a lot of crap for drawing “penis monsters and other gross characters” in the office while the writers were in attendance. He also allegedly spoke openly about his sexual exploits with his girlfriend, including their interest in threesomes. A source said: “It was something we just ignored because he was disgusting.”

At another time Roiland sent a “really creepy” text to a female employee late one night asking her to come to her house. A source explained, “He didn’t want to have her up the flagpole, and then it was just this really messed up and embarrassing thing.” She was also under the influence of alcohol most of the time.

It is this type of behavior that ultimately led to the destruction of Roiland’s relationship with the co-creator of the series Dan Harmon.

Roiland’s involvement on Rick and Morti It was basically just voicing the characters, and in regards to that, he wasn’t going to take any direction, and he was going to record from his home. In fact, “It’s been years since anyone can remember setting foot in the show’s writers room, even when it’s been virtual.”

There are also reports of similar situations in his other shows like Solar opposites AND Koala man. ON Solar opposites, until mid-January he had voiced one of the show’s protagonists. A source explained, “He knew the power of being the voices” and noted how “Roiland had revealed early on that he believed securing key voice roles would safeguard him from being fired one day.” Well, that plan didn’t work out very well.

ON Koala man, which he executive produced, was given the voice for a character in the show’s third episode but, according to insiders, “The writers almost missed their deadline waiting for him. The character was killed off at the end of the episode.

The report goes on to say, “As the allegations and the headlines piled up, staffers struggled with their association, desperate to telegraph that Roiland hadn’t been significantly involved save his vocal performances, for years. In fact, they “barely knew” the man A number of Rick and Morty staffers, with the blessing of a large swath of staff, sent a letter to Adult Swim and the new parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, asking the company to issue a statement clarifying Roiland’s position on the show.” Which they did.

Since Roiland’s downfall, more women have begun sharing lewd messages they claimed to have received from Roiland. You can read more about those in the report. I just wanted to focus on the crazy things that were happening at work with him.

Seems like he was the kind of guy that was a nightmare to work with and be around. Well, I guess karma caught up with him.
