Matthew McConaughey Says Yes To ‘How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days’ Because It Was Advised By A Psychic

Matthew McConaughey’s career is, to say the least, a curious one. He made his film debut in Richard Linklater’s ‘Movida del 76’, was placed under the orders of Steven Spielberg in ‘Amistad’ and subsequently made ‘Wedding Plans’ with Jennifer Lopez. In the 2000s, he combined romantic comedies like ‘Sahara’, ‘Bride for Hire’ and ‘Like Fool for Gold’ with thrillers, adventure or horror films, all before giving a radical change to his filmography in 2012 with ‘Mud’ and ‘The newspaper boy’. Of course, we wouldn’t know how he would have done if he hadn’t made ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,’ a huge box office hit, but that the actor had many doubts.

As McConaughey revealed to Vanity Fair, it was a seer who gave him the last push to say yes to the romantic comedy in which he starred with Kate Hudson: “I remember considering whether or not I would do it one night as I was walking down Sunset Boulevard when all of a sudden this guy appeared out of nowhere. He was a psychic and he said to me, “Can I tell you your fortune really fast?”. I replied “Yeah mate. Of course.” Tell me right away: “There is a film you are considering right now. It’s a romantic comedy. You have to do it or it will be one of the things you will regret the most in your life. It’s going to be amazing, it’s going to be an amazing experience and it’s going to make a lot of money.” I remember thinking, “Did the studio hire this guy?” I laughed at the idea, but I also remember considering it. [la película] more seriously. I think I accepted the offer the next day too.”

Will they come back?

Thanks to this unknown soothsayer, McConaughey got into the skin of publicist Benjamin Barry in the film directed by Donald Petrie. ‘How to Lose a Boyfriend in 10 Days’ tells the story of a reporter, Andie Anderson (Hudson), who is commissioned to write an article on how to get a guy to break up with you in 10 days. At the same time, executive Benjamin Barry makes a bet with his boss that he can seduce any woman in 10 days. And coincidentally, that same night Andie and Ben meet and begin their work without revealing their true intentions to the other. A true classic of the 2000s.

With so many overdue sequels filling our billboards, Vanity Fair asked the team if we can expect a sequel 20 years later: “Frankly I don’t know how we would do. I don’t think it would be the same without Kate and Matthew”Petrie acknowledges. “He should be a writer who gives an amazing speech about how they’re going to make a sequel to this”; but Hudson has some ideas: “My dream is that [Andie y Ben] be happy, have many children, get married and continue to bullshit with your parents. If there was a sequel, I’m sure there would be a conflict somewhere.” In Spain, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is available for rental on Rakuten TV, Google Plan, Amazon and Apple TV+.
