Director James Cameronthe long-awaited sequel Avatar: The Way of Water it definitely made a big hit at the box office and is still in number one, after seven weeks. It just passed the $2.11 billion mark globally, and this past weekend alone, it grossed $15.7 million from 3,600 North American theaters between Friday and Sunday, enough to claim the top spot for seventh-ever consecutive week.

Friday has passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.071 billion) to become the fourth highest-grossing film in history. Now, The water way only behind Avatars ($2.92 billion), Avengers: Finale ($2.7 billion) and Titanic ($2.19 billion) in terms of ticket sales worldwide. Cameron directed three of those four outings, putting the director in unrivaled company.
Didn’t have much competition in January, but we’re about to see a number of new movies hit theaters in February, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummaniawhich is sure to rock the box office.
