Activist Artists Management signs award winner Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir in Venice and Toronto

EXCLUSIVE: Activist Artists Management has signed award-winning Mongolian filmmaker Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir. She is represented at the full-service music and talent management agency by Bernie Cahill and Jon Kanak.

Purev-Ochir caused quite a stir in the city after winning Best Short Film at both the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals for her sophomore effort in 2022. snow in September. She is celebrated for exploring the contradictions of contemporary Mongolia, having previously seen her first short film. mountain catwon the Sonje Award for Best Asian Short Film at the 25th Busan Film Festival, which will also be screened in the 2020 Cannes Short Film Competition.

Purev-Ochir is currently in post-production on her debut film, YOU, is located in the yurt district of her hometown, Ulaanbaatar. Starring Tergel Bold-Erdene and Nomin-Erdene Ariunbyamba, the coming-of-age film explores shamanism and sexual awakening between two teenagers trying to navigate life’s many problems. The project was presented at the Locarno 2020 Film Festival’s Open Doors Co-Production Forum, where it received the Moulin d’Andé CECI Award along with 40,000 Swiss Francs in production support, with the jury stating that Purev-Ochir ” a true aspiring and fresh writer, who offers us a contemporary vision and no stereotypes of her country.

“Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir is an exceptional storyteller whose films have received well-deserved acclaim around the world,” said Cahill, founding partner of Activist. “We are thrilled to represent such a gifted filmmaker.”

Purev-Ochir earned a BA in Film Directing before interning at the Mongolian National Broadcaster, where she trained with renowned filmmaker Jigjidsuren Gombojav. She then earned an MA in Screenwriting from the KinoEyes European Filmmaking Masters and taught at the Mongolian School of Film, Radio and Television and the country’s Institute of Cinematography.

Other notable clients at Activist Artists Management include actor Ken Watanabe (Vices of Tokyo) and David Alan Grier (They cloned Tyrone), screenwriter Terry Rossio (Godzilla vs. Kong), white collar Creator and showrunner Jeff Eastin, Oscar-winning media company Lion Forge Animation (Their love) and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
