While some had access to even bigger televisions, there were many children who had their first exposure to classic films during their childhood, as they were lucky enough to have at least one or more screens in their home. And since nostalgia sells, let’s now review some of those who were an important part of the growth of many children in the eighties, nineties or 2000s.

Not only a must-have for Christmas, but also one of the classic movies that have been a big part of the childhood of many babies. It is “Home alone”, with a curious translation in Latin America as “My poor little angel”, or in Spain as “Alone at home”. The story stars Macaulay Culkin together with Joe Pesci, who give life to an adventure in which a boy faces a couple of thieves who want to rob his house. Available on Disney+.

The mask

Jim Carrey as always does his thing, with a beautiful Cameron Diaz in one of the the most classic films of the 90s. This is ‘The Mask’, the adaptation of a little-known comic in which a man wears a mysterious mask that gives him incredible abilities, and also gives him a completely green face. Available on HBO Max.

Karate Kid

Definitely the culprit that many signed up for karate classes in the 80s and one of the classic movies that shaped many childhoods, ‘Karate Kid’. Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita play Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi, a young man and his martial arts master who collide with a formidable martial arts house in search of an epic showdown. Available on Netflix.

jumanji

It’s good that the new installments with Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black wanted to distance themselves, and they did right. But nothing like the classic “Jumanji” with Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst, protagonists of a story in which some boys and two adults have to participate in a board game that makes unimaginable fantastic adventures possible. Available on Netflix, HBO Max, Star+, Claro and Amazon Prime Video.

The Neverending Story

For many, the film with one of the strongest scenes and which destroyed many childhoods, was “The Neverending Story”, based on the book by Michael Ende. Bastian is a boy who finds a book about a world where darkness is winning and who waits for a human being like him to come and save him with the help of a fantastic creature. Available on HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video.

Batman

The first major adaptation of the Dark Knight to the big screen was directed by Tim Burton in 1989 with ‘Batman’, in which Michael Keaton played an excellent Bruce Wayne, and Jack Nicholson played an even more memorable Joker. The germ of what superhero cinema is today originated here, in this production which continues to be the favorite of many. Available on HBO Max.
