Gossip Girl goes dark again. After just two seasons, the gossip Girl the reboot said goodbye on January 26th. The sequel to the HBO Max series was surprisingly canceled before the end of the second season. The latest episode was full of unexpected twists and a post-credits scene that nobody expected.
The team decides to expose Gossip Girl once and for all, at the Met Gala of all places. Julien and the rest of the gang hatch a plan to lure Gossip Girl by claiming credit for her work right on the steps of the Met Gala. Zoya is the one who steps up to reclaim the Gossip Girl identity, and the plan is something Blair Waldorf may have thought about in the past.

“It has to be me. It makes more sense,” says Zoya. “It started when I arrived. Dan was a stranger.
Audrey asks Kiki to design a dress for the big reveal. Max convinces Gideon to invite Zola as an escort. Luna smuggles Zoya’s dress to change into at the Met Gala. They decide to team up and make sure Gossip Girl is watching by posting all of their most revealing secrets. Kate is watching it all happen like a hawk. Jordan urges Kate not to take the bait.
Wicked Heidi can’t help but tell Audrey that Max slept with her before the revelation airs on Gossip Girl. Max admits that sleeping with Heidi was the first time he “felt real regret.” Max is heartbroken to learn that Aki and Audrey slept together without him.
While the grand plan is underway, Luna has had enough of Julien once and for all. Obie exposes Heidi, while Monet takes matters into her own hands to ensure the plan succeeds. Zoya steps out in a dress with “I Am Gossip Girl” embroidered across the front of her. The crowd goes wild and security quickly throws them out of the event.
Julien later thinks the plan didn’t work because the real Gossip Girl hasn’t been revealed yet. Meanwhile, Max is devastated by Audrey and Aki’s secret. When Max mentions “free-for-all or no-for-nothing”, Audrey and Aki confess that they don’t want to break up. Max feels like a complete idiot and walks away from them.

Kate can’t leave him alone. When she sees a story about a movie deal for the rights to Zoya’s life after the Gossip Girl reveal, that’s what triggers her. She shows up for the “meeting”, but it’s a trap. “I’m Gossip Girl and I can prove it. I refuse to let anyone else take the credit,” Kate says. Julien and Zoya are shocked.
Andy Cohen he is seated next to Obie, along with Jonathan, who reveals that Eric is currently in the Spectator giving exclusivity to Nate. Even Nick is surprised by Kate’s secret. “I wanted to make them better. I want them to be better,” Kate explains. She is then arrested for cyberbullying and other charges.
Two months later, the crew is all in Italy. Luna is now a full-fledged model. No one has heard of Max. He’s in Berlin getting into trouble. Zoya meets a new boyfriend, who could become the “great love” she longs for. Julien leaves alone to find his aunt Naomi. He wants to know more about his mother and her family.
There is a post-credits scene with Aki’s father Roger and Jordan. Roger wants to expand Gossip Girl into an app. He offers Jordan a lot of money to run it.

Luna would also return and her story would be expanded in a major way. Josh noted that Luna’s rise to stardom would drive Julien and Monet “incredibly mad with jealousy and envy, and they would band together to try and bring Luna down.”
Even Audrey and Aki would regret letting Max go. “What you see is what was always going to happen, but season 3 would have explored Audrey and Aki realizing that they rushed,” she noted. “Max is trying to move on because he’s so hurt, but they realize they miss him.”
