EXCLUSIVE: Adding another wide release to the 2023 cinema calendar, as Open Road just went out with Gerard Butler’s action film Kandahar for Memorial Day weekend on May 26.
The film, directed by Ric Roman Waugh, will join other big-screen titles such as Disney’s during the four-day holiday. the little mermaid, Lionsgate’s Sebastian Maniscalco-Robert De Niro film about my father and Sony action comedy The device.
Kandahar, written by Mitchell LaFortune and Waugh, follows Tom Harris (Butler), an undercover CIA agent trapped deep in enemy territory in Afghanistan. With his mission exposed, he and his Afghani translator must make their way to an extraction point in Kandahar while evading elite enemy forces and foreign spies tasked with tracking them down.
Other stars include Navid Negahban, Ali Fazal, Travis Fimmel and Elnaaz Norouzi.

Butler currently has the action shot Only by Lionsgate in theaters. Entering its second week, it has earned $20.7 million in the United States to date.
