2022 was a year full of previews on the various streaming platforms, but, according to Nielsen (via Deadline), world leader in audience analysis, Netflix was crowned as the platform with the most titles in the Top 15 most watched projects in the United States. Below we find two different classifications, one with original productions only and the other general, with films and series whose retransmission rights are owned by a streaming service but do not necessarily have to have created them.

Of the fifteen most viewed original productions of 2022 in the United States, thirteen are from Netflix, in addition, the top ten are all from this platform. The list is led by “Stranger Things,” which debuted its fourth season in the summer, with 52 billion minutes played. Silver goes to ‘Ozark’ with 31.3 billion minutes viewed and bronze goes to ‘Wednesday’, with 18.6 billion minutes viewed. The amount achieved by this series has a lot of merit if we take into account that it premiered at the end of November and that it has only eight episodes, i.e. it had less leeway to sneak into the list and, moreover, having few chapters, it is more difficult to add minutes.
Rounding out the remaining seven places to complete the ten most-watched original productions of 2022, in that order, ‘Cobra Kai’, ‘The Bridgertons’, ‘A place to dream’, ‘DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer story’, ‘ Love Is Blind’, ‘Who is Anna?’ and ‘The Crown’, all Netflix series. At number eleven we left this platform and went to Prime Video, as ‘The Boys’ takes over. Netflix’s ‘Great British Baking Show’, ‘The Umbrella Academy’ and ‘The Last Kingdom’ are at number twelve, thirteen and fourteen respectively. The spinoff of the famous Middle-earth franchise, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, by Prime Video, closes the ranking in fifteenth place.
Top 15 overall
The previous ranking is only with the original productions of the platform, but if we analyze the list of the most watched projects of 2022 in streaming in the United States, whether or not they are created by the streaming service and have simply acquired the broadcast rights, varies from the previous one. First of all, instead of Netflix content being 13/15, the number drops to 15/11. The only one that doesn’t move is ‘Stranger Things’, which remains in first position, but the rest, in that order, are as follows: ‘NCIS’ (Netflix), ‘Cocomelon’ (Netflix), ‘Ozark’ (Netflix ), “Charm” (Disney+), “Grey’s Anatomy” (Netflix), “Criminal Minds” (on various platforms), “Bluey” (Disney+), “Gilmore Girls” (Netflix), “Seinfeld” (Netflix) , ‘ Supernatural’ (Netflix), ‘Wednesday’ (Netflix), ‘Heartland’ (Netflix), ‘Cobra Kai’ (Netflix) and ‘The Simpsons’ (Disney+).
