Madonna was left without a biopic: Universal cancels the film that the singer herself would have directed

Madonna had already had problems during the pre-production of the film. According to Variety, the performer would show up two draft screenplays of over 180 pages, something exorbitant. Universal has attached Amy Pascal to produce the film which was co-written with Erin Cressida Wilson (“Chloe”). Recall that Madonna has already directed several films such as “Obscenities and Wisdom” or “Wallis and Eduardo: The Romance of the Century”. However, the singer remained without creating what she defined as: “the incredible journey of my life that led me to become an artist, a musician, a dancer and a human being trying to make his way in this world”.

Universal’s cancellation comes to light a week after the singer’s announcement her “Celebration” world tour. The United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy or Germany are some of the stops that the artist will make on his tour, as well as Spain, which is not left out. Barcelona will be the only passage of the American through our country, on November 1st and 2nd.

This biopic still did not have a shooting start date, nor a closed title. However, what was known was who would play the singer in her film, Julia Garner. The ‘Who’s Anna?’ actress, who he did not comment on the matteryou will be left with the desire to appear on the big screen to the rhythm of ‘Like a Prayer’ or ‘Material Girl’.

The process of choosing Madonna

Madonna is not just any person, we know that. Overwhelming, wild, controversial and talented. Actresses of the scene such as Alexa Demie (“Euphoria”), Odessa Young (“Wild Nation”), Florence Pugh (“Don’t worry, dear”) or Emma Laird (“Mayor of Kingstown”) were some of the interested parties who they wanted to try their luck in the challenging selection process. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the applicants were subjected to intense choreography sessions that lasted up to eleven hours: “It was exhausting”says a close source. It may seem that after eleven hours of dancing with Madonna’s choreographer, the actresses had enough, but their working day did not end there. After the “lesson” there was another rehearsal (now yes) with the singer. Also, not everything is moving forward, both Garner and the rest of his mates have had frequent script readings and singing lessons with the star: “you must be able to do everything”. A very tough process for some girls who “just want to have fun”.
